00:00:00] If you've ever checked your email stats and thought, okay, people are clearly opening my emails, so why isn't anything happening? No replies, no clicks, no sales. You are not alone. And today we're going to talk about what's actually going on when emails get opened. But not acted on because the answer usually isn't what you think.
[00:00:22] Let's dive in.
[00:00:24] Are you a female business owner frustrated with battling the algorithm and looking for growth strategies that don't involve awkwardly pointing or dancing online or throwing cash at paid ads? Welcome to the email growth show. I'm your host, Kylie Kelly, visibility and email marketing strategist. I grew my email list from zero to almost 10,000 subscribers in less than two years, and the same is possible for YouTube.
[00:00:51] Are you ready to build your email list and start making more money in your online business? Let's head into today's episode.
[00:00:59] Hey, [00:01:00] hey. Welcome back to the email growth show. this is something I see all the time with my clients and inside my community. Someone will say, my open rates are great, but nobody is clicking or. People read my emails, but they're just not buying. And the assumption is usually something must be wrong with my email.
[00:01:18] But most of the time the issue isn't the email, it's what the email is asking people to do. So let's break down a few reasons this happens and how to think about it a little bit differently. Reason number one. Curiosity opened the email. Let's start with the simplest explanation. Your subject line worked.
[00:01:37] Subject lines exist for one job to make someone pause in their inbox, to spark curiosity, to make them think, Ooh, what's this about? But curiosity and commitment are two completely different things. Someone can open an email purely because they're curious and still have no intention of taking action, and that is normal.
[00:01:58] Here is something I say to my [00:02:00] clients all the time. Subject lines earn the open, the email earns the action. Those are two completely different skills. Reason number two, the email never actually asked for action. This one is incredibly common. A lot of emails are lovely. They tell a story, they share an insight, they offer something helpful, and then they sign off.
[00:02:21] The email ends or the call to action is just really vague. Check this out, learn more here if you need me. Your reader is busy, their brain is processing dozens of things all at once. If the next step isn't obvious, they will simply move on. One of the easiest fixes here is clarity. Just tell people exactly what you want them to do.
[00:02:43] Reply, click here. Join us. Book this. Watch that. Here is a line I want you to remember. Confused. Readers will not click. You need to be clear to drive any action. Now, reason number three is that the email is [00:03:00] interesting but not urgent. Sometimes an email is genuinely good. It's helpful, it's thoughtful, it's interesting, but it doesn't give the reader a reason to act right now.
[00:03:10] So they think, wow, that was awesome. That was useful. And then they continue on with their day. Educational emails often fall into this bucket. They build trust, which is really valuable, but they don't create urgency. This is where things like deadlines, limited spots live, workshops, launches, wait lists all make a difference.
[00:03:32] Urgency isn't pressure, but it is simply giving someone an action to do for a moment in time. Something specific. Interest will create readers, but urgency will drive action and you don't have to do it in a way that feels ick either. You can do it in a way that sits really well with you, that's honest, that's full of integrity, but there does need to be some kind of sense of urgency for people to take action.
[00:03:55] Reason number four is that trust is still being [00:04:00] built. Sometimes nothing is wrong at all. People are simply still warming up. Someone might read your emails for months before they ever click anything. They're observing. They're learning how you think. They're noticing whether your advice actually works.
[00:04:13] Trust is built through consistency, and email is powerful because it allows that consistency to compound. Remember, people rarely buy the first time they read your email. They buy after the 10th time, they recognize your voice, that familiarity matters more than a single call to action.
[00:04:32] Often it's the sender name of an email. That is more important than even the subject line. They need to get to know you, reason number five is that the offer isn't the right fit yet. Another reality we need to acknowledge is that not every reader is ready for every offer. They simply might not need it yet.
[00:04:49] They might not be at the right stage yet. They might not see themselves in the transformation yet, and that's okay. One of the biggest mindset shifts with email marketing is understanding that your email [00:05:00] list is not a room full of buyers. It's a room full of people at different stages of the customer journey, at different stages of readiness.
[00:05:08] Some will be curious. Some will be learning, some are comparing, some are ready. Your job isn't to force everyone into action. It's simply to show up so the right people move when the timing aligns. So I just wanna normalize something. Most people will open your emails far more often than they will take action.
[00:05:27] That is normal behavior. Think about how you read emails yourself. You might read something interesting. You might think, oh, that's smart, that's clever. You might mentally bookmark it. You might keep scrolling. You might move it into a folder, and then weeks later you suddenly click. Something from that same person from the outside, it might look random, but from your perspective, you've been paying attention for a little while.
[00:05:49] It's been building trust over time. Remember, the inbox is not where most people make instant decisions, but it is where they build long-term trust and they move when [00:06:00] they are ready. We just have to open the store and invite them in, knowing that when they are ready, they will purchase.
[00:06:06] Now, I wanna leave you with a simple way to increase engagement. So if you wanna see more engagement in your emails, here's something simple to try. Ask for small actions, not always big ones. So instead of buy this, perhaps it is reply and tell me what do you think about this?
[00:06:22] Where are you stuck with this right now? Replies, change the dynamic of your list.
[00:06:27] They turn it from a broadcast or one to many email that feels a little generic into a conversation, and there's something really interesting that happens when that shift occurs. People stop feeling like subscribers and they start feeling like they're part of the room, like it's a more intimate relationship.
[00:06:44] So at the end of the day, the real goal of email isn't just clicks, it's that relationship. If somebody recognizes your name, if they trust your thinking,
[00:06:53] if they read your emails regularly and they feel like they know you,
[00:06:56] you are building something far more powerful than a single conversation. [00:07:00] You are building trust and trust will lead to a buying decision. Just remember, people don't buy from the emails.
[00:07:06] They click, they buy from the voices that they trust. And trust is built one email at a time.
