What If Pausing Isn’t Quitting... & Why It Might Be the Most Strategic Move You Can Make [Ep 202]
Today I’m peeling back the curtain on something we don’t talk about enough in online business...
What if the answer isn’t to try harder… but to pause?
If your last launch flopped, your content feels heavy, or you’ve been whispering “maybe I’m just not cut out for this” - this one’s for you.
What You’ll Learn in This Episode:
- Why we don’t talk enough about the in-between seasons of business (& how they impact your mindset)
- What I learned from a client who swapped urgency for a Pause Plan - and finally started breathing again
- What a Pause Plan could look like (real examples + low-pressure ideas)
- How to know if you’re truly in burnout - or just disconnected from your own voice
- Why pausing isn’t quitting (and how to reconnect with your business without pushing harder)
This episode isn’t another strategy session or productivity hack. It’s a love note to the part of you that’s quietly craving space and permission to rest without guilt.
Because sometimes the most powerful thing you can do for your business… is pause.

That in-between season is sneaky as fuck. It doesn't scream like burnout, but it whispers things like, "You should be further along by now." "This is too hard." "Why does everyone else make it look so easy?" But here's the thing that no one tells you. Just because you can push through, it doesn't mean you should.
Kylie Kelly [00:00:22]:
Are you a female business owner frustrated with battling the algorithm and looking for growth strategies that don't involve awkwardly pointing or dancing online or throwing cash at Welcome to the Email Growth Show. I'm your host, Kylie Kelly, visibility and email marketing strategist. I grew my email list from 0 to almost 10,000 subscribers in less than.
Kylie Kelly [00:00:42]:
2 years, and the same is possible for you too.
Kylie Kelly [00:00:45]:
Are you ready to build your email list and start making more money in your online business? Let's head into today's episode.
Kylie Kelly [00:00:54]:
Hi, my loves. Welcome back to the Email Growth Show. Today's episode is a little bit different because it comes off the backend of a client call that I had where I gave her some advice some advice that might be a little bit different to what you often hear, and so I want to share it with you too. Today's episode is for the woman who's been in her head lately, for the one who's staring at a sales page wondering why is this not landing, for the one who sent all the emails, made all the tweaks, showed up at the summit, posted the damn reel, and is still hearing crickets. Or worse, perhaps you're feeling nothing. This is for the woman who's wondering if she should just walk away. Maybe that's you, and if it is, I want to offer you something radically different than another strategy or final tweak or pep talk. I want to offer you a pause.
Kylie Kelly [00:01:39]:
Not a failure, not a burn-it-all-down, not a retreat into shame or comparison. A sacred, intentional pause. And I thought what might be helpful is if I walk you through what that could look like and why it might just be the most powerful thing you could do for your business this year. Now, let's be real. No one talks enough about the in-between seasons. The ones where you're not failing, but things aren't working either. Where your revenue's been okay-ish. Your list is growing slowly.
Kylie Kelly [00:02:10]:
Your offers have technically launched. Your presence is technically visible. But inside, you're so damn tired. You're second-guessing everything. Was my messaging off? Should I rewrite the whole funnel again? Maybe I need to pivot. Maybe it's my niche. Maybe I just suck at selling. Maybe everyone else has something I don't.
Kylie Kelly [00:02:30]:
Does that sound familiar? I have been there too. That in-between season is sneaky as fuck. It doesn't scream like burnout, but it whispers things like, "You should be further along by now." "This is too hard." "Why does everyone else make it look so easy?" But here's the thing that no one tells you: just because you can push through, it doesn't mean you should. Now, let me tell you about that client call I had recently that completely cracked this wide open for me. This client of mine has been in business for a while. She's smart, she's strategic, she shows up. She's built offers, she's run bundles, she's launched a membership, she's spoken at summits. She's doing the work.
Kylie Kelly [00:03:09]:
But when we got on our call, her first words were, "I'm tired and I don't know what else to try." She wasn't asking for more ideas. She's had plenty. She was asking for permission. Permission to step back. Permission to stop forcing things. Permission to let go of the pieces that felt heavy. So that's what we did together. We created what I now call a pause plan.
Kylie Kelly [00:03:29]:
It wasn't fancy. It didn't have KPIs. It was just some simple roadmap for what to keep and what to let go of so her business could breathe again. And the minute we laid it out, I saw her whole body shift. Not because we fixed her funnel, but because we made space for her to feel again, to want her business again. And here's what that pause plan looked like, just in case you're sitting there wondering if one could work for you too. She decided to keep her podcast going because it still felt good. She was going to send one email a week.
Kylie Kelly [00:04:00]:
But there was no pressure to sell. She was just going to talk to her people. She was going to keep her Pinterest running in the background because her VA was already managing it. She was going to remove live calls from her membership because no one was showing up anyway. And she was going to make herself available in Slack just one day a week. And she considered inviting her most engaged member into a one-on-one coaching offer instead. That was it. It was about choosing enoughness over exhaustion.
Kylie Kelly [00:04:25]:
No relaunch, no 20 email sequences, no complicated sales strategy, just a breath, a reset. A chance to reconnect to her voice, her energy, and the work that actually lights her up. So often I find that we treat business like a machine, right? Input equals output. Audience plus nurture plus funnel equals sales. But the truth is, your business is more like a garden. It needs seasons. It needs a reset. It needs things to die off so new things can bloom.
Kylie Kelly [00:04:55]:
And if everything in your business feels heavy right now, it doesn't mean you're broken. It might just mean that you're in a winter season. You're allowed to be in winter. You're allowed to not launch. You're allowed not to push. You're allowed to pull back, not because you're giving up, but because you're choosing to be intentional. So let me say this really clearly: pausing is not quitting. Pausing is strategic.
Kylie Kelly [00:05:19]:
It's powerful. It's an act of trust. So if you're listening right now thinking, well, shit, Kylie, maybe I do need a pause, but you're scared of losing momentum, Let me first say I hear you. So let me offer you a soft place to land. This is what a pause plan could look like for you. You might choose one platform that you love. Keep the podcast or YouTube or your newsletter, but just pick one, one platform that you love, that feels good, that lights you up still a little bit, that is exciting to show up on. Send one email a week, not to sell, just to stay in touch.
Kylie Kelly [00:05:54]:
Talk like a human. Let it be short. Let it be simple. Scrub your email list. Do not pay for people who reading, let it be smaller and stronger. Stop creating new offers just for now. Let your existing offers breathe or even shelve them if they're not landing. And then lastly, ask yourself, what feels good? What feels fun? What feels exciting? And always, always start there.
Kylie Kelly [00:06:21]:
And when the energy returns, because I know it will, you'll have clarity. You'll know what to build next, and it will come from alignment, not obligation. So if you've been pushing and forcing and showing up and tweaking and trying and it's still not working, it's not because you're not good enough. It's not because your audience hates you. It's not because you're bad at business. It's because you're fucking human and you're tired. You are allowed to stop for a week, for a month, for a season. Your dream doesn't disappear just because you pause.
Kylie Kelly [00:06:52]:
Your expertise doesn't evaporate just because you log off. You're allowed to rest, to simplify, to reconnect to your whole reason of why you started in the first place, to fall back in love with your work on your own terms. And when you're ready to come back, trust me, you'll have the clarity and you'll have the energy. So if today's episode felt like it was speaking directly to you, it's because it is, my love. You don't need permission, but if it helps, here it is: pause, rest, and reset. I promise you're not falling behind. You're just finding your way forward again. And you know what? I'll be right here when you're ready to rise.
Kylie Kelly [00:07:31]:
I want to make sure that I'm always following my intuition, following my gut, and bringing message that I deeply believe that someone listening needs to hear, and this was it this week. So if that was you, please reach out, let me know that it landed, let me know that it helped you. And if you ever want to reach out and just ask me a question, maybe vent a little bit, share what's going on in your world, please never hesitate to send me an email. You can find me over at hello@kyliekelly.com. All right, my loves, I'm sending you so much love from my heart to yours. If this is you, if you are going into a season of rest, of pause. Know that it's okay. Start to trust the process.
Kylie Kelly [00:08:08]:
And if you need anything at all, don't hesitate to reach out. I love you loads, and I will see you next week. Bye for now. Thank you so much for tuning into.
